Getting started
MiTax is Nigeria’s all-in-one tax platform. It calculates what you owe under the Nigeria Tax Act 2025, prepares your returns on real NRS templates, helps you pay the government, and keeps your receipts and records in one place. It works for salaried individuals, freelancers, landlords, businesses, tax professionals, and state revenue offices.
Three steps. First, you tell us a little about your income in a short wizard. Second, our servers work out the tax under NTA 2025 rules, applying every relief you qualify for. Third, you review the return and file it through the official NRS Rev360 channel, then pay. You get a receipt back in the app for your records.
No. The free tools (the PIT tax calculator, TIN lookup, penalty calculator, Tax ID health check, and e-invoicing readiness check) all run in your browser with no signup. You only need an account to file, pay, and store records.
There is a free tier so you can try the calculation engine. Paid plans in the app start with Personal, then Business and Corporate for more tax categories and multi-user access. See the pricing page for the current plans.
Filing & tax basics
Personal Income Tax is the tax individuals pay on their income: salary, business profit, rent, and other earnings. Under NTA 2025, the first ₦800,000 of taxable income is tax-free, and the rate rises through bands above that. Try the free PIT calculator for an estimate. Read the full NTA 2025 guide for what changed.
PAYE, or Pay As You Earn, is how PIT is collected from salaried employees. Your employer deducts the tax from your salary each month and remits it to the tax authority, usually by the 10th of the following month. PIT is the tax itself; PAYE is the monthly mechanism employers use to pay it on staff behalf.
Value Added Tax is a 7.5% tax on most goods and services. If your business is required to register for VAT, you charge it on your sales (output VAT), can reclaim it on your purchases (input VAT), and remit the difference to the NRS monthly. MiTax tracks input and output VAT and prepares MBS-ready e-invoices. Check your readiness with the e-invoicing readiness check.
NTA 2025 came into force on 1 January 2026. Big changes include new PIT bands with a ₦800,000 tax-free threshold, a new Rent Relief for tenants, the replacement of the old Consolidated Relief Allowance, a Development Levy, the move to a 13-digit Tax ID, and phased e-invoicing. Our NTA 2025 guide walks through all of it in plain English.
Yes. Gains on the disposal of crypto are subject to Capital Gains Tax, computed per trade using the naira value at the trade date. MiTax can connect to major exchanges and compute the tax automatically. See the crypto tax guide.
Late filing and late payment attract penalties and interest that grow every month until you file and pay. The longer you wait, the more it costs. Estimate the current exposure with the free penalty calculator, then file to stop the clock.
It depends on the tax. VAT, WHT, and PAYE are typically monthly. Annual returns such as personal income tax are filed once a year. For individuals, the annual PIT return is generally due by 31 March for the previous tax year. MiTax reminds you before every deadline and shows a penalty clock so you are never caught out.
Payments & fees
MiTax is strictly non-custodial and never holds your money. When you pay tax, the funds flow from you, through a licensed payment provider, straight to the government. MiTax is not a wallet and is never in the middle of your money. For how we protect your data, see the security page.
We earn from subscriptions. The government tax itself is never marked up: you pay exactly what you owe. See the pricing page for plan details.
Once your return is ready, MiTax hands you off to a licensed payment provider to pay the government directly. The money never passes through a MiTax balance. When the payment settles, the NRS or State IRS receipt is stored in your document vault.
Tax Clearance Certificate (TCC)
A TCC is an official document showing you are up to date on your taxes for the last three years. You often need one for government contracts, visa and passport applications, some financial products, and regulated-industry licences. MiTax lets you apply for, track, and renew a TCC without leaving the app. Read the TCC guide for the full list of who needs one.
From your compliance dashboard, start a TCC application and MiTax assembles the last three years of filings and payments for you. You track its status in the app and get a reminder before it expires so you can renew in a few taps. The full walkthrough is in the TCC guide.
Account & Tax ID
A Tax Identification Number (TIN) is the number the tax authority uses to identify you. Under NTA 2025, Nigeria is moving to a new 13-digit Tax ID that replaces the older 10-digit TIN. If you still have a 10-digit TIN, you should migrate before your next filing. You can check your number with the free Tax ID health check.
For individuals, your Tax ID is linked to your National Identification Number (NIN). The NIN is 11 digits. If your NIN and Tax ID are not linked, filing can fail, so it is worth confirming the linkage. MiTax can check and fix the linkage for you inside the app.
Use the free TIN lookup to check for an existing record. If you do not have a TIN yet, you can register through the NRS, or let MiTax handle the full registration when you create an account. Businesses use their RC number; individuals use their NIN.
Security & data
Yes. Everything is encrypted in transit with 256-bit TLS and encrypted at rest. Sensitive identifiers such as your Tax ID and BVN get field-level encryption. We build to the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA), we do not sell your data, and you can export or delete your records. Read the privacy policy and the NDPA statement.
Yes. Your data is yours. You can export your returns, receipts and records as CSV, PDF or JSON at any time, and you can request deletion in line with the NDPA. There is no retention hostage. See the privacy policy for how requests are handled.
